The phrase couldn't have been more apt.

Unlike listening to a lot of instrumental bands, taking in Chevron's performance is a completely active exercise. While it would be easy to focus on the ridiculously talented drummer, your ears are also simultaneously dealing with a dual guitar onslaught of crunchy, Fugazi-esque riffs and face-melting, melodic licks that occasionally reach out and grab you for one captivating moment before tossing you back into the mess. You'd almost think—with all the complicated time-signature changes and free-form interplay—that these guys are showoffs, except they hardly acknowledge the audience, or each other. It's as if they're playing some sort of math-rock video game where the most complicated song structure wins.

The problem with Chevron's intricate wall of sound is that, once it was built, the band dropped us over the edge like bad first dates with no kiss at the door. Heads were a-boppin', feet were a-tappin' and, then, suddenly, you're rushing to finish your beer in a rapidly emptying bar. It felt like a tease, but then again, this kind of complex rock might make your head explode if you listen to it—or play it—for too long. AMY MCCULLOUGH.

Slug Magazine reviews "self titled" tour cd:
"Chevron = part US Maple, part Slint, part Ghosts and Vodka + dilute + directions in music with a hint of PDEs thrown in for the mathematical amazing Now, I come from a humble humanities background where math and science are as foreign to me as moving car parts, who made the Internet and the finer art of nature survival. But one thing is for sure; this CD is like receiving a guitar-whipping from Steve Albini and enjoying every minute of it. So here is what they sound like in mathematical terms: For what real values of x does the following inequality hold: 4x^2 / (1 - sqrt(1+2x))^2 <>Jaded Times reviews "diamond sparkle princess" seven inch:
"Thank GOD for Chevron. I was going out of my mind with all the indie rock we'd received for this issue, and this was the last record I had left to do. I was immediately happy to hear it start up, crunchy distortion in a jazz-timing hardcore setting. Guitar driven instrumental mathy hardcore. Beautiful. It made my night. Builds, crescendos, time shifts, awe-inspiring guitar riffs..all present. Splendid.
Instrumental isn't for everyone, granted, but this is an appealing 7". The songs bend from loud to quiet but maintain a free form style that just makes my ears happy (plus not an acoustic guitar in site, thankfully). Plus it was pressed on toothpaste colored, marbled vinyl. Nice job all around."
-Todd Berry

Eugene Weekly reviews "rock in my stomach, hole in my eye":
Eugene’s Chevron began their early days as Collectivo, performing their own live score to Koyaanisqatsi, Godfrey Reggio’s epic film about human life and our separation from the natural world. Brian, Devin and Jevon as Chevron have released this six-track, 35-minute EP.
Self-described as “noisy shoegazers,” that portrayal hardly does justice to the dynamics at work here. Tracks one and two are about eight minutes long, allowing plenty of time for buildup and anticipation. On “christian warrior weekend luncheon,” jagged shards of guitar pierce the heavy atmospheric storm.
Subset with a chiming guitar holding onto the melody, track one begins anew at five minutes, a quiescent building up of pressure, until the inevitable explosion of guitar vectors, with an underlying static noise. Track two, “desk, chair, unicorn,” meanders along with an echoing buildup, like birds taking flight. Track three, “snowy landbridge,” stays mostly on the pastoral side of the fence. Track six, “outro (nominative),” doubles the weird effects factor.
Tracks two, three and four are from their Koyaanisqatsi score. The two guitars and drums and minimalist vocals reflect a sense of dissonance, a textural exploration of horrible beauty. This is a great first recording. Go see them live for the full effect.
-Vanessa Salvia

for the latest "one-sheet" bio information dealie.

release - "outward facing"

"Outward Facing"
limited edition CD-R EP sent out toward friends for the middle-winter of 2004/2005. free.
1. untitled
2. weather attack
3. tessa on the belly
4. red sleeves
5. wootaag wit mitch
6. lonely rolling star
7. make as you go
8. untitled.
~{ stream entire album
